Re: GM 2012: Future cars

My armchair analyst...umm...analysis:

It seems like the 2012 Malibu will be an update similar to the 2010 Fusion in the way they are describing it. I had been thinking it would be more extensive.

When are the Spark and new Aveo coming to market? Hopefully not two from now.

Impala?

I like that the new entry-level Caddy will have a manual. It seems too many new car introductions are eliminating manuals...or restricting them to basic models; which is an unfortunate possibility for the entry-level Cadillac.

AWD being in this car is not news, we have known about that for about a year now.

I suspect "Scion xB proportions" simply means it'll be a compact, tall little wagon. Imagine an xB-sized car with Terrain styling cues!

There's also practical reasons for GMC to offer something like this. The GMC brand is well-loved in the yuppie community. Yuppies latch on to anything and everything that's "trendy" (just witness mgescuro's entire lifestyle! ). With "Green" becoming the new "in" thing, and conspicious consumption on its way out, there'll be swarms of well-heeled customers out there looking for mini-urban-warrior wagons that are a cut above plebian Scions in price and image.

With the Mini Cooper starting to become cliché — not to mention its unfortunate "chick" image — a tough-but-classy-looking baby GMCster could very well be poised to become the next "hot" item amongst upscale urban hipsters.

I'm just saying... keep your mind open to the possible positive benefits such a model could bring, rather than cavalierly dismissing it.
What is so unfortunate about a "chick image"? I don't see why people fixate on this.

That's what I thought...I figured they'd close this thread or link it to the original one, but, instead it ends up on the front page! Go Figure!

There is a better review in Motor Trend, where they had their artists sketch what they saw, including the ATS.

Buick
Aveo is here within 8 months. Spark in 2011 as a 2012 model.

But four wheel drive is twice as good as two wheel drive. Will have far better handling in most conditions and will drive about as good as rwd in dry weather. And no fishtailing or spin-outs.

Re: GM 2012: Future cars

Not looking forward to a Bangle-butt Malibu. It should look like a Chevy, and not a European luxury sedan. With all of GM's great design history, they don't have to resort to copying off BMW.

Any xB-type vehicle should be sold through Chevy, not GMC. They have been diluted enough with a plethora of crossovers.

Look forward to the "baby" Cadillac.

If it looks - and more importantly, SELLS like the 3 series, this could be Cadillac's new gold mine. I personally am intrigued. If it had a small block V8 it would essentially be a Cadillac "pony car" - an interesting first.

I have yet to have my 2wd stability controlled Cadillac fishtail or spin out... and I have actually tried several times to do just that.. On a hard packed snow covered sidestreet I once managed to put the car sideways down the street for a 100' maybe... (while the dash flashed warning lights and the brakes tried to pull the car back in line) but for the life of me I could not get this car to "swap ends"

Stabilitrak... I will never buy another car without it.

BTW as was posted above this is a repost of an old news story... we have had lots of confirmation since this story was published that the XTS will likely be offered as a FWD car too... Nothing new here.

Picture an Enclave.

Now shrink it.

Recall the GM commercial with Ed Whitacre in it and find the GMC-badged crossover in the center.

Does it look like a shrunken Enclave?

In fact, go back to the same commercial and look for what appears to be a smaller Enclave. Looks nothing like the GMC-badged crossover.
