GM 2012: Future cars

General Motors recently showed reporters and select members of the public what it plans to build over the next two years. There was just one rule: No photos could be taken.

Sounds like the New General really IS listening to the troops!
Good news all around!

Re: GM 2012: Future cars

According to that the big Cadillac will be a AWD only vehicle much like the Audi A8 is sold in America as a AWD only vehicle.....

This defeats the benefits of going to a FWD platform as its heavier and looses more power then a RWD platform.......

I'd say Ford's EcoBoost soundly squashes that argument.

Re: GM 2012: Future cars

Hate to rain on this parade, but this is a repost. This CNN article was last updated on Oct. 1. I've read this before.

I'm just starting to realize a lot of what we read here will be reality in 18-24 months. These cars will be here before you know it!

Same here. I'm glad they're not letting it go on forever and from the sounds of it, they're changing what needs to be changed and leaving what doesn't.

I don't know about this GMC xB thingy. I don't have high hopes.

I really hope Cadillac gets a Converj

Buick needs somthing bigger than the LaCrosse IMO. But they don't need somthing that's going to step on the toes of the new big Caddy either. And they need the baby-Enclave POST-HASTE!

GM also showed a new big Cadillac that will replace both the STS and the mammoth DTS sedan. This vehicle will be an all-wheel-drive car.
Hmm. That's interesting.

The Buick plug-in showed signs of the quick changeover. Much of the body looks very similar to the Vue crossover.
Proposed tagline: Same same. But different.

Quote:
In addition, there was also a new compact Buick SUV, something about the size of a Honda CR-V, with distinctive sharp lines and Buick-style chrome.
OK wait. So Buick gets TWO Theta-sized CUVs??? Or did CNN have sizing issues and Buick is getting the long-announced Corsa-based SUVlet?

EDIT: OK, I understand, so the VUE hybrid will resurface as the Chevrolet Captiva next year, plus a Buick Theta will debut with different sheetmetal.

We shall see... Insiders who know were saying otherwise... Interesting that they refused to discuss engines on that car... When you say nothing sometimes thats says more then when you are talking.

Not really.

2010 Dodge Charger R/T:

368hp/395lb-ft
16/25mpg

2010 Ford Taurus SHO:

365hp/350lb-ft
17/25mpg

V8 RWD still wins over turbo V6 AWD. More power and torque and same fuel economy.

And we'll see how that changes with the '11 models.

When they release details about cars ahead of time, you guys bitch. When they don't release details about cars ahead of time, you guys also bitch. I have a feeling this is why they do release stuff ahead of time. Otherwise, everyone would think the worst!
