GM: 2006 Global Vehicle Sales Will Hit New Record

Link: http://autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/ar.../1011&refsect=

The following is a quote from the above article:

"The Detroit-based automaker is relying on new products, including its new GMT-900 series of SUVs and trucks, to drive sales in 2006. On Thursday*, it forecast its 2006 global vehicle sales would hit a new record, exceeding last year's 9.2 million units, lifted by growth in Asia."

Re: GM: 2006 Global Vehicle Sales Will Hit New Record

It's my impression that Asia will be the main engine for vehicle sales growth for GM, with LAAM and potentially Europe contributing little to no growth. Global revenue will not change as much as if the sales gains were coming from NA; the average transaction price for a NA vehicle is over $5,000 more than for the average GM vehicle sold in the AP region.

North American sales will be flat at best. And in my mind the part of the statement should have read that the GMT-900's will drive profitability, not sales. I suspect that GMT-900 sales-which are already strong-will not move substantially. Rather, I predict their sales will be flat in a shrinking segment, thereby showing gains in that specific market as opposed to raising GM's overall market share. The profitability will stem from the vehicles requiring less in incentives to convince consumers to buy these amazingly competent, well-done vehicles.

This is why I dont see Toyota exceeded GM in sales until 2007 if they will do so at all.

Re: GM: 2006 Global Vehicle Sales Will Hit New Record

Not according to my local newspaper, Newsday, which ran one of the most biased POS reports I have ever read. It was in the Auto section on Jan15.
It basically was an advertisement for Toyota which declared GM a loser and Toyota the winner. Mentions Cadillac being swarmed by competitiors even though Cadillac is on the upswing and starting to overtake them all. Doesnt mention the fact that the Aveo is the best selling subcompact or how well GM is doing in China.
I was so pissed off I sent a letter to the editor. lets see if it gets printed.

Re: GM: 2006 Global Vehicle Sales Will Hit New Record

Every bit helps and it is good to hear that GM is doing well, I just wish it was the same in the USA..
Sales in the Middle East sky rockted from a modest 20k in 1999 to more than 70k in the 2004, I'm sure they they reached or even passed 80k in 2005.

If GM brought more US built cars that would of helped, I could of just bought a Cobalt, I don't want a Daewoo, now I'll just wait for the Camaro

Pontiac's, Buick's and even Oldsmobile's used to be big in the Middle East, now we get Holden's, Daewoo's and Opel's

Do you have the title of the article, I'd like to try to find it in their archive.

Cadillac's on more than an upswing. I'd have to go look it up, but I'd bet dollars to donuts that Cadillac is the number 1 luxury brand in the world in terms of sales.

In the world Cadillac is not a player.
Mercedes and BMW are the rulers of the luxury brands world wide.

I agree, the numbers don't add up for Caddy on the world stage. Caddy has a long way to go to catch up to the likes of BMW, Mercedes -- and even Lexus -- in world-wide sales. At home it's a different story. Caddy was the sales leader as recently as 5 or 6 years ago but has fallen behind the competition. Right now I believe they are number 3 behind Lexus and BMW. But even as Caddy becomes rejuvinated and has sales climbing, other luxury brands like Infiniti are surging thanks to good products like the G35, FX45 and M45.

If Caddy wants to catch up, they need to offer more and more product. I mean, Bimmer and Benz both offer coupes, convertibles, crossovers -- they're in every nice. Caddy doesn't even have a true coupe or a "real" small car ala the 3 Series (the CTS fights with the 3 in price, but not in size and content).

Just my opinion.

Like was stated Caddy is on the upswing and Caddy is a posistion to finally do some good things with its cars and regain its crown as the standard of luxury. And IMHO i think they are just about there.

Re: GM: 2006 Global Vehicle Sales Will Hit New Record

I used to like Cadillac when they had better looking designs that shouted first class luxury. The new Cadillacs all look like their on steroids or something. I hate the boxy looking front end design and those oversized headlights are just plain ugly. It looks like they designed the front of the car around the headlights. Bring back the classy designs and get rid of the box on wheels look. I like the look of the Jaguar's the best because it screams class and luxury just by looking at the car.

I looked up the data. In the US, Cadillac is #3 behind Lexus and BMW.

Infiniti did 135K last year, Cadillac did 234k.

Re: GM: 2006 Global Vehicle Sales Will Hit New Record

Cadillac is doing great for the fact they really don't have as much products as BMW, Mercedes or even Lexus.
Cadillac is the prime example of "It's the Products Stupid".
Give people good cars and trucks and they will come back.
Now Cadillac just needs to broaden their product line to fully compete with BMW & MB.

I don't think that will ever happen unless BMW or MB do something really stupid. Cadillac has never been in the same class as MB and probably never will be. MB is light years ahead of Cadillac and GM.

I believe it was titled something like 'Toyota set to pass GM as Number one in 2006".
I tried to find it on their website but couldn't find it.
