Gas prices to take 10 million cars off the road: report
http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNew...hub=TopStories
CALGARY -- Reports from two of Canada's biggest banks say rising gasoline prices are going to have a major impact on U.S. driving habits. CIBC World Markets economist Jeff Rubin says gas prices in the U.S. will hit US$7 a gallon -- the equivalent of C$1.86 a litre -- two summers from now. Rubin says over the next four years we're likely to see "the greatest mass exodus of vehicles off America's highways in history,'' with some 10 million fewer cars on the road by 2012. Another report by Scotia Economics says Americans are opting for smaller more fuel-efficient cars over gas-guzzling SUVs and pickup trucks. Carlos Gomes, an auto industry specialist, says small cars now account for one-quarter of overall U.S. sales, up from 16 per cent last year. The meteoric rise in global crude oil, which was trading at US$138 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange midday Thursday, has been a major factor in soaring pump prices. |

Re: Gas prices to take 10 million cars off the road: report
People saying that gas or oil will hit a certain amount of money are just allowing the industry to suspect we are fine with it. So what happens, well we all know that they will continue to raise prices until we have an economic breaking point, what a shock.

Re: Gas prices to take 10 million cars off the road: report
The good news: less cars on the road emitting CO2 emissions.
The bad news: Consumers will spend less on disposable items and the car market will be the weakest in years. Not good news for GM

Forget the news and analysts, the oil companies have an immediate feedback on their actions. They know that they're OK everytime you and I go to the pump and vote 'YES' by hitting the pump button. That action goes directly to the boardrooms and marketing departments all over Houston. As long as we vote 'YES' then they know that they can pass on the next price increase....SOLUTION?? Don't go to the pump. Use some other means of transport. Use some other fuel. Buy a more efficient vehicle and visit the pump less often. There are a whole variety of things that each of us CAN do...if we really want to. Last edited by PhishPhood : 06-26-2008 at 06:45 PM. |

Yeah, that'll happen when the US improves it's mass transit. For me, driving is the only option. I can't see a bus route or train line coming in before I die.

Another point, gas is being driven up in price because of inflation - not supply and demand. Inflation is the expansion of the monetary base without the equal expansion in production. This is done illegally and even OPEC had to admit that this price increase is due to a dollar debasement. (when the dollar gets destroyed it cannot buy as much thus the increase in prices).

Co2 is a toxic gas...
jacked from another forum "It is currently at a globally averaged concentration of approximately 387 ppm by volume in the Earth's atmosphere... CO2 is toxic in higher concentrations: 1% (10,000 ppm) will make some people feel drowsy, whereas 5% is directly toxic." we arent anywhere close to 1% but im just saying... it can be toxic

Also I hate when people say that switching to some more efficient thing takes X number of cars off the road. what about shutting down X coal plants or X trains or X amount of cows farting?

Re: Gas prices to take 10 million cars off the road: report
It really irritates me how how everyone is still pushing this whole "going green thing". Don't they understand how serious America's economic situation is? "Global Warming" should be so low on our priority list right now. Even if it is real, if we don't have money we wont have the ability to "fight" it.

The US economy would crash at $7 per gallon. Scare tactics is what this is. I'm betting oil prices will crash after September.
