Gas costs back on road to $3

Eric Morath / The Detroit News

The steady climb to higher spring gasoline prices is under way and a repeat of last year's $3 a gallon is a strong possibility.

I begin to ponder if Toyota and Honda got some stakes in oil companies to influence and lobby the oil companies to keep their prices high? To crush Detroit and once their dreams realized, gas prices will drop like a rock and they'll offer suddenly V8 vehicules (it already begin with Lexus V8 and Tundra V8, Titan V8, Infiniti V8) or even V10 cars like the Acura concept showed at the last NAIAS.

that's the conspiration theory of the day

You are free to purchase as much stock as you can afford in that company then; and thus earn your share of the future profits.

Of course, since $3/gal. is not guaranteed, so that might not work.

So governments in Europe can do the same because of ultra high taxes and I see little complaining.

Supply and demand goes both ways. The oil companies weren't doing near as well in 1999 when I recall paying under 80 cents for a gallon.

If you want it cheaper then it's time to make oil easier to drill in the US. An increase in domestic supply will create a downturn in price.

Re: Gas prices back on the road to $3

I try to look on the bright side, maybe higher prices at the pump will jumpstart the innovation needed to increase EPA mpg numbers. Furthermore, how about actually producing a car like the Volt to give us some hope.

I am tired of funding people that hate everything about us and our culture and dread the thought of my children doing the same.

GM needs to get the Volt on the road as soon as possible so we all can tell Hugo Chávez, the House of Saud, Exxon/Mobile and Royal Dutch Shell to go F*** themselves ...to quote the Vice President.

Hopefully you have a short drive everyday. I would love one, but 70 miles a day round trip keep me from buying anything that might get less than 20MPG. I will probably always be that guy buying the small truck with a 4cyl.

It's a good one too!! It's more like they paid off the Democrats to look the other way and ignore their loyal auto unions.
