Ford Will Put 600K Fusions In Kellogg's Cereal Boxes

http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll...607310329/1148

Fusion toy cars: They're GRRReat! - Associated Press

DEARBORN -- Ford Motor Co., in an effort to keep promoting its Fusion midsize car, plans to put 600,000 toy cars into Kellogg Co. cereal boxes starting Sunday.

The boxes, each containing a Fusion Hot Wheels car, will be distributed out of discount retailer Target Corp.'s stores nationwide. Fusion photos will appear on each box, the nation's second-largest automaker said.

The Fusion toys will be inserted in boxes of Froot Loops, Apple Jacks, Frosted Flakes and Cocoa Krispies.

Ford said one red model with the Target logo will be among them, and whoever gets that box will win a real Fusion.

Continued promotion of the Fusion, one of Ford's better-selling models, is a priority for Mark Fields, Ford's president of the Americas. In a recent interview, he said Ford used to roll out a vehicle, then stop promoting it.

"We used to do the launch and abandon, which means advertise it for three or four months and then move onto the next product," he said.

"In the case of the Fusion, it's a new nameplate. We need to make sure we continually have the right care and feeding of that nameplate so that the awareness builds over time."

I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried.

Then again, I think I need some Frosted Flakes...

MOMMY, DADDY!!!!! I GOT A MID SIZED SEDAN THAT I CAN PUT ON MY HOT WHEELS TRACK NEXT TO MY SPORTS CARS!!!!!

How booooooooooooring...... Why not put in some Shelby GT500's to at least make it cool. What kid is going to say that they need a 4 door sedan for their collection? They will only collect dust in their Hot Wheels carrying case.

As funny as this sounds, its serious business.

Auto makers realize that they have to establish brand recognition in young people well before they become future car buyers.

Ford is simply making a tiny investment in its future, and it makes sense.

Putting GT500's won't help sell more cars. Everyone knows what a mustang is. They need to get the Fusion name out there. I'd rather have kids playing with a Ford than a Toyota or Honda.

Fields still doesn't get it. It was not absence of promotion as much as a lack of updates and improvements that killed the Taurus etc. If they were serious, you'd see the Duratec 3.5 in the Fusion (at least as an option even if the 3.0 hung around as a "base" V6) to put it on par with its V6 rivals. No plans for that though. Toy giveaways will not make up for the fact that the Fusion is underpowered against Camry, Accord, Sonata and Altima V6's.

This is a strange promotion since Kellogg's sponsers a Chevrolet team in nascar and is always putting the 5 car on tons of frosted flakes boxes. When I think of Kellogg's I think now of the 5 car and chevrolet rick hendrick.

next there will be a recall for the Fusion toy car because the door falls off and becomes a choking hazard for children. i wonder if that would be included in the years total recalls? LOL

They used to do this kind of thing when I was a little kid. I loved it.

FRUIT LOOPS!! YES I LOVE FRUIT LOOPS!! I have a box of fruit loops at work & one at home. I used to take big family size boxes of them with me to my classes in college.

What happens if a 14 year old wins the real car? Does it go to the parents, what if the parents dont want it?

Hey, I was going to Target anyway, and the kids do like cereal......I just want the Hot Wheel car; I collect the odd ball, not-too-popular models and a mid-size domestic sedan fits that description. Although given the choice between the Fusion and the Mazda 6 it's based on, I'll take the Ford.

This is a good way to market the car, kids seem to just love getting the toys in cereal, no matter what it really is. It would help build awareness of the Fusion and Ford. It is also probably a lot cheaper than commercials too.
