Employers Give Major Incentives to Workers who Buy Hybrids

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13186602/

Updated: 6:03 p.m. ET June 7, 2006

NEW YORK - Bank of America Corp. on Wednesday said it will offer $3,000 rebates to thousands of employees who buy hybrid vehicles, a move that could lead other large companies to provide similar "green" incentives.

The No. 2 U.S. bank is by far the largest U.S. company to offer such incentives, in an era of $3 a gallon gasoline.
Together with tax credits, the rebates might save consumers more than $6,000 per vehicle. Online search company Google Inc. and insurer St. Paul Travelers Inc. are among other companies that offer incentives to buy hybrids.

This is great.

Along with tax breaks, you could get a 2007 Camry Hybrid for under $20,000. It would average 35-40mpg, is quicker than the 4cyl, and is loaded with technology.

Or a Civic, RX, GS450h, Vue, etc etc. If I was offered an incentive like this I don't think I'd even consider a non-hybrid vehicle.

Anyone hear any news on the Malibu hybrid front? GM's been extremely quiet for about a year now after the big announcement that it would make one. No mention of it here: 2007 Malibu Changes But I thought it was due this summer...

Will they also cover the battery replacement, pay for towing sevice on the side of the road? And what about the fires and the recall on the steering? I'd make them give me an incentive for an alternative fuel vehicle like E-85 that won't give me trouble.

Re: Employers Give Major Incentives to Workers who Buy Hybrids

I know this is well intentioned, but exactly what is the intention? If to promote hybrid purchasing..so it helps the technology along that is fine.

Someone else in an article this year pointed out something else though. The gas saved and the polution prevented by someone buying a Hyrbrid instead of a non-hybrid version of a brand new car is much smaller than the difference between someone driving a 15 year old car versus any new car.

Instead of incentives to get people to buy Hybrids...how about taking that money and instead doing something to get people out of 15, 20, 25 year old pollution billowing cars and trucks and into a new car or truck that uses less gas and emits MUCH less polution.

This smells funny. Like an understanding between Toyota and BofA?

What would be even better is if they gave rebates for v-8 Impalas that look better and will kick the crap out of a camry. This isn't "cheerforricersinsidenews"

And then you'd regret it when you're hit with the thousands of dollars in repairs and battery replacement costs a few years down the road. Don't forget the nosedive the car will take in resale value when GM, DaimlerChrysler, and BMW unleash the dual-mode hybrids in the future.

Next year. The plan is to have a light-hybrid version of the I4 cost about as much as the entry level V6 on the Malibu, so around $20K.

Good idea, and I suggest an incentive for diesel-powered cars using biodiesel once the ultra-low sulphur diesel arrive.

Which will rule in the future? diesels or electric hybrids? or a combination of both?

Before fuel cells of course...

Don't Toyota and Honda have like 10-year warranties on their batteries? Maybe you keep your cars that long, but I know almost no one who does.

Well this is just interesting...do they really want to discount hybrids for their workers, or is it some type of evil scheme? LOL
