Darker 2008 for Detroit’s Automakers

DETROIT — The way that auto executives here have been talking, 2008 will be a bad year to sell cars and trucks in the United States. Every time one company predicts how the industry will fare, another seems to come up with an even more dismal number.
Most forecasts now come in ranging from 15.5 to 15.9 million vehicles, an estimate that would mark the worst year for sales in the United States since at least 1998.

If things dont stabilize soon I think that the sales forecast could go as low to 15.1 million for 2008

Hopefully it'll get a boost. GM needs these numbers to go up to get capital so they can keep new product pumping. I'd hate to see anything get killed off just because of a slow down in the economy. I think this news will hit Chrysler the hardest though. Nothing seems to be going their way right now.

Chrysler, like GM and Ford is planning on building under the projection.

They will build like the total cars for the year will be 14.5 to 15 million and adjust upward as needed.

We need to stop these kinds of articles. There's no point in living in fear all the time. Unfortunately the media in the world thrives on bad news. It is a much better story.

Oh well. I think GM will do just fine if it wasn't for all the blatant bad articles that scare people away to the imports.

I can't disagree more. The reason I posted this thread is I (and I know many others) want to hear boths sides of GM's success story. I simply cannot understand why someone would not want an article like this even posted....if you close your eyes and don't see something...then it won't happen?
