DaimlerChrysler to Eliminate 6,000 Jobs

By DAVID McHUGH, Associated Press Writer 32 minutes ago

BERLIN - Automaker DaimlerChrysler said Tuesday that it would reduce administrative staff by 20 percent over three years, cutting 6,000 jobs and saving some $1.2 billion a year in a bid to make the company more competitive and profitable.

Those job cuts are in Europe. That wouldn't have anywhere near the impact of the GM and Ford cuts.

Re: DaimlerChrysler to Eliminate 6,000 Jobs

The fact that there actually are jobs being eliminated in Europe is sort of intersesting, though. From things that I have read, their labor agreements make RIFs pretty difficult endeavors, including politically difficult.

Although of course, the jobs proposed for elimination are not production jobs, but rather white-collar ones.

True, but it's a smart move to stay competitive.

So...is the media going to think the Big3 are even worse now...and Toyota better, because Toyota is building new plants?

ABC World News mentioned it. They were quick to point out that most of the cuts would be in Germany.

What can we say, US automakers Ford and GM are far over staffed.
