Confirmed: Rick Wagoner to Drive to Washington in Malibu Hybrid

GM CEO Wagoner Plans To Drive To DC For Hearings
December 2, 2008 11:17 AM EST
StreetInsider.com

General Motors confirmed CEO Richard Wagoner will drive back to Washington DC for hearings on the automaker bailout, which start Thursday.

Wagoner will be driving a hybrid Chevy Malibu from Detroit to DC.

Yesterday, Ford Motor CEO Alan Mulally said he will drive to DC for the hearings.

Both executives were involved in a public relation nightmare after taking private jets to the initial bailout hearings last month. The public was outraged that the auto executives would have the audacity to take private jets to beg for pubic money.

Good plan! Now where else can Execs, salaried and hourly staff make cuts and sacrifices? I hope that GM can save itself.

yes agreed an excellent idea. I realy hope this doesn't backfire. I really have little to know respect for GM and the like of Rick but I do not want to see hundreds of thousands of American and Canadians without jobs. (union or not)

I wonder how many cars were in the entourage? I hope they were all hybrids or XFE models.

Re: Confirmed: Rick Wagoner to Drive to Washington in Malibu Hybrid

They should poll all of congress and ask them what vehicles they drive. If less than half are imports and less than half are SUVs I'll give every GMi member 1000 euros.

No, 1000 bucks. It's still alot!

If ANY of them own a domestic hybrid or domestic 4-cylinder that gets more than 30 mpg I'll double it.

I assume he'll be driven and not driving. I wonder if he's ridden in any Chevy passenger car in this decade?

Re: Confirmed: Rick Wagoner to Drive to Washington in Malibu Hybrid

This is what is needed. He is going to Congress. P.T. Barnum is in charge there.
The symbolism is what matters. There may be two people in Congress that know that the Malibu uses a mild hybrid system. Those two are already on our side.
It is all about symbolism.
Think not? I invite you to Boulder, Colorado where every other dope drives a Prius. To save the environment? Of course not! No, it is to convince the neighbors that one is environmentally conscious. This is the place in which they raise no money to help cure diseases; they wear "T" shirts and festoon their cars with stickers to "promote awareness." No cures - just awareness.
I'm aware already.
We should move the nation's capitol to Disneyland or Las Vegas where fantasy is identified as such.
In the meantime. Rick Wagoner should drive a Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid to Washington.
Cheers,
Ed

The next great story could be:
Rick's Hybrid Malibu breaks down in Ohio. Harried CEO cuts holes in floorboards to complete trip using Flintstone power - Yabba-Dabba-Do!
