Chrysler slams Big Oil for cheating consumers

Chrysler slams Big Oil for cheating consumers

Chrysler’s hard-hitting PR man Jason Vines just got over criticizing certain members of the press and the *** community for calling his company homophobic, and now he’s at it again. This time, Mr. Vines targets Big Oil and rebuts accusations that automakers aren’t working to improve fuel economy. “Just as the weather warms and Americans are turning their thoughts to hitting the roads for vacations or weekend getaways, the prices of gasoline and diesel fuel are rising faster than the odds of the Detroit Lions playing the Super Bowl,” Vines said in a statement to the press. Vines says this “coincidence” has nothing to do with chance and “almost everything to do with greed by the big oil companies.”

Re: Chrysler slams Big Oil for cheating consumers

I doubt it'll change anything but more backlash from larger companies might eventually spark change. I still doubt it though.

This needs to be said. The big oil companies are robbing us blind.

I found it ironic that gas prices now are about twice what they were 5 years ago ($2.50 versus $1.25), and ExxonMobil's annual profit in 2005 was about twice what it was 5 years ago in 2000. Hmmmm...

Oh, to be an oil baron...

Re: Chrysler slams Big Oil for cheating consumers

The problem is that fuel efficiency is not improving fast enough to offset the added demand of new drivers and car owners.

As a country, we need to develop better traffic patterns that will help improve fuel efficiency. The price of gas alone will keep customers of big SUVs away unless they really need a big SUV.

China is learning to drive...as is India.

We should be demanding diesel engines, more efficient street grids, and better intersections. There is not much else we can do about gas prices short of cutting demand.

Then again, every time oil prices go up, Baton Rouge makes money....go figure.

With all due respect, you sound like an oil industry apologist.

This guy is a great example that being outspoken does not mean being rude! GM needs to replace Lori Queen with him!

Ah but if you look at their profit margin, then you will see it has not doubled. For FY2000 net income margins were almost 8% while in 2006 they were 9.5%. The rise in profits by margin is substantially less than double which of course means they're only screwing us less than double Other factors do come into play though since oil is a commodity - hurricanes, military presence in the Middle East, China and India's demand etc...

Not to mention it is easy to play games to hide your profits. Sounds like profit engineering to me.

Substantially harder to do now with Sarbanes-Oxley! Some enterprising financial Geraldo wannabe would have dug into the financials to uncover such manipulation by now.

Re: Chrysler slams Big Oil for cheating consumers

Thanks Jason, for confirming what we all suspected. The end of this administration can't come soon enough. Not that liberals would be any different, but now Oil crooks are out of their minds.
It's a shame Americans are so darn complacent and sheepish and are grateful that these @#$#% are ripping us off.
