Chevy Dealer Beats GM To The Punch: Puts New Toyota Tundra On Lot

Link: http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dl.../70524038/1173

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Automotive News

To the Editor:

Putting a Toyota Camry in the showroom to compare it with a Chevrolet Malibu is not "unthinkable" at all.

We have a new Tundra out front right now. It's part of our "Toyota ain't all that" campaign.

MARK FROST, General Manager, Jim Ellis Chevrolet, Atlanta

Brand to brand marketing. This is great for GM. It needs to try to get the Dealer to help market their vehicles. GM needs to use all of its network to compate with Toynisda.

His inventory has got to be one of the largest in the nation. Good idea with the Tundra, but it would be better if it also had a Dodge, Ford and Nissan! Just to be completely unbiased! LOL!

Gm trucks are great, but some people like my mom just refuse to buy American ever again. I think they should also consider other foreign makers llike Dodge (the deal has not closed yet and Chrysler will still be 20% foreign ownership so will still be foreign) and what about Honda's Ridgeline?

The Ridgeline isn't even in the same class. That "thing" is for people who hate trucks, but still need one. They can then haul big items in the open trunk of their "not a truck."

I'll pick my 10 year old, 164K mile 4.6L V8, $2,377 Ebay special, screaming orange, ex CDOT Ford F150 against the Ridgeline anyday for real work.

Re: Chevy Dealer Beats GM To The Punch: Puts New Toyota Tundra On Lot

Hopefully salespeople will be educated on both the GMT 900 and the Tundra, so they just don't have the Tundra on the lot to be cocky. I remember going to a Toyota dealership just to see what everyone was talking about the Camry for. I would never buy one, but just was curious. The salesman asked what other brands I was considering and I told him Buick and Chevy. The man drove a Cadillac for a weekend car and a Toyota during the week. And before he started selling Toyotas, he was a Cadillac salesperson for 25 years! Anyway, I told him I was looking into Buick and he said they were on their way out of business and that a Chevy would fall apart in a year! I pretty much told him I would not be buying a car from him. He wasn't even trying to compare the cars, all he was doing was putting the competition to shame rather than actually telling me anything about the Toyota. I guess he thought the car would sell itself! So much for that!!

Looks like another sale for the tundra. Now toyota needs to hope that all GM dealers will buy one, so maybe they will get close to the gaol they set.

Re: Chevy Dealer Beats GM To The Punch: Puts New Toyota Tundra On Lot

i pulled up beside one yesterday at the gas pump. i asked the guy if he was liking his truck. he said it was "ok". he missed his silverado. he said "the tundra just didn't ride and drive right." i just can't get over the overall look of the truck myself. i just don't see it as a big threat. i may be wrong.......... only time will tell.
