I just read the article today, and was wondering who would post the topic first.

I wonder how this win will be explained away by the anti GM faction..? Ah..I know. "GM had nothing to do with how these cars became what they are, they're rebuilt completely by the Tuner company..." blah, blah.

Well done Cadillac, and GM. Congratulations, the BMW killer is here.

Don't forget: the Vettes did well for themselves, too, despite their not placing first.

The Henneysee (not sure of spelling) twin turbo Viper is crazy! Just got my newest Road & Track, which had a short article about it. 0-150 MPH in 12 seconds flat!!

LW, normally I agree, but today you are off the mark. The physical look of a car is subjective, and DOES NOT affect the performance (except sales performance) of a vehicle.

The modified Caddies beat ALL of the competitors, despite their looks.

If the TT Lingenfelter Corvette could get any tracking, this thing wouldn't have been a contest. I'm sure the Viper had tracktion problems, but they had to feather the gas on the Vette all the way up to 80 mph!

BTW, I would take a CTS over any of it's competitors simply because it looks BAD ASS!

Doesn't matter, viper won out due to pure brute force. What I am frankly more interested in is how comparable the performance would be between the Lingenfelter ZR-1 that won the first round of this test, and this vette. Mainly because while I have never warmed to the C5, the ZR-1 is one of only two vettes I would want to own.

As for the "junior league" in this test (the one the Caddy won), I'll give the CTS-V credit for winning against the EVO. Say what you want about it, thanks to its all-wheel drive, its acceleration can be brutal when launched properly.

All I can say is that it's scary how fast some vehicles can be, granted you have to spend a lot of money to get there. I don't know about you guys, I'm not really experienced in high speed driving or racing or that sort of thing, but these numbers that these cars put up performance wise almost don't mean anything to me, other than they're really damn fast. Obviously I know what they mean and such, I am a car guy, but I'm almost not surprised that they're this fast.

Yeh, I have to say the Caddy got lucky the EVO had problems as much as I hate to admit it. Of course it probably weighed several hundred pounds less. GM is back to reak havoc in the car world though. I hope everyoen is ready!!

PS, I would like to see a highly modified Cobalt SS whoop that EVO's ass!

At first I thought the CTS was wierd but now I love it. Has anybody seen the STS commercial w/ the black euro cars? I love watchin' it.

That would be extremely difficult for a fwd car like the cobat to do due to the inherent traction issues involved (see SRT-4). Simply put the EVO is in a different league than the Cobalt. Closest GM has to it is the GTO but that car gives the EVO a HUGE weight break.

The ricers are not going to like reading this article, the only *** car mentioned was the Evo. Surprise, surprise, it did OK for a little while and then it broke down, I've seen it a hundred times on the street with supertuners. There is no compromise to cubic inches, if you want big power start big and go from there, V8 and up only.

personally i think props should be given to gm either way. the blocks that were used were from the gm parts bin, and the chassis of the cars didnt have to be modified to much to make them handle. now if only they had put that power on the ground.

but i also have to recognize that damn VW. as much as i hate those cars, they did a damn good job of it. luckily, like any VW, itll be broken within two years
