Canada considering blocking Hyundai, Kia sales

http://www.leftlanenews.com/canada-c...rean-cars.html
Ontario, Canada's most populous province, is considering blocking the importation of South Korean cars — namely those made by Hyundai and Kia — if the Asian country does not allow cars made in Canada easier access to its market. Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty is concerned that the current free-trade talks between Ottawa and Seoul heavily favor South Korea.

Oh for a politician in the United States that could think like that...

McGuinty also sent a message to Tata Motors that if the Indian automaker planned to sell its $2,500 Nano in Canada, it would have to be built in Ontario.

Good for them... it's high time that the US start implementing protectionist policies; it only seems fair, given the treatment that we get on our imports.

Go Dalton! Its about time someone stood up and fought for our domestic products. No one did this for our textile industry and now look where we are! If companies want to sell their products here, they better be ready to accept ours as well without trade barriers or tariffs.

That's not what I meant, but yes, I'd prefer that you go away now, or at least become our 51st state.

So that will just further increase the problems of Canadians going south to buy new cars!

Over my dead body (And I'm Serious).

But I agree with Dalton. If Koreans want unrestricted access to our market we should have unrestricted access to theirs.

Or at least some sort of trade agreement where they give you something in return?

What does Korea have that Canada would want?

Now if we could get our Presidential candidates to come up with a plan like this, to me all "mass-produced" products (cars, electronics, appliances, clothing, etc..) sold here should have a mandated percentage of them made in the U.S.A. It may raise some prices but not as high as many think, and it would at least create a market for the products - Henry Ford was right.

It's time the U.S. stopped being the marketplace for start-ups and time to replace "Free-Trade" with "Fair-Trade", we tried free-trade long enough and gave away millions of good paying jobs for it.

They are so far ahead of us in manufacturing, electronics, etc. that I cannot imagine what we could sell them short of raw materials, logs, etc.

We've been exporting our manufacturing sector for years, just as the US has.
