Bloomberg NewsRadio is reporting that Leonardo DiCaprio is in the process of assembling a team to bring VW's 'dieselgate' to the big screen.
=================================================
Update: Automotive News eMail Alert:
The Volkswagen AG scandal over diesel emissions tests is headed for Hollywood.
U.S. movie studio Paramount Picture and actor Leonardo DiCaprio's production company have acquired movie rights to a book proposal by New York Times journalist Jack Ewing about the clean diesel scandal, the biggest crisis in Volkswagen's 78-year history, Paramount and New York literary agency Marly Rusoff and Associates said on Monday.
Publishing rights for the as-yet-untitled book sold earlier this month for six figures to the Norton publishing house, Marly Rusoff said. The book is expected to investigate how a "more, better, faster" ethos fueled one of the greatest frauds in corporate history.
Re: Can It Get Any Worse? Leonardo DiCaprio May Direct Movie Based On 'Dieselgate' Co
Really, can this get any worse?
Wall Street based themes seem to make very popular movies, perhaps this will be aligned in that mode. If true, and if produced, this could really hurt VW for an extended period of time.
This is turning out to be quite the soap opera. Just today on Fox News I saw one of those long winded multi lawyer mega law firm ads sucking up for participants to sue VW. Jeez, what next?
Maybe they should do a movie about how big diesel truck engines, like the 2500's and Superduties, don't require emissions and pollute ALOT more than a cheating VW diesel ever could?
He is very much an environmentalist, so it makes sense.
Unfortunately, he is a hypocrite.
At the last World Cup, he rented the world's largest private yacht to sail down to Brazil for him and his friends putting out more pollution than I do in years.
You do understand that you are just one person, don't you. Di Caprio's yacht transported himself, his guests, and the boat's crew. And the yacht is more than just transportation. It also served as living quarters for all aboard. Refigure your pollution guesses to account for the pollution caused by the transportation and living quarters per person.
Checked out of seeing new movies long time ago. This is one of many reasons why. It will be a propaganda platform. Always about how everyone else is bad. Maybe they should do a movie on how dealer service departments try to up-sell you on repairs
Wow - if a real movie with a real cast came out about the VW scandal it could do more harm than "Who Killed the Electric Car" did to GM. I'll buy that for $10.
A movie could spur a whole toy industry like Star Wars. Maybe Matchbox will come out with little VW's with black smoke coming out the tailpipes. Leggo could have build your own VW's with again some black smoke. A special edition of "Operation" where the lungs are all black from breathing in diesel fumes. :
This is probably going to be the worst movie ever.
Script:
VW exec: Build more diesels.
VW engineers: They won't meet emissions.
VW exec: That sucks.
VW engineers: Oh wait we can cheat.
VW exec: K cool.
EPA: Hey you guys cheated. You owe us elevety billion dollars.
VW exec/engineers: O sht. That sucks.
I can't wait for Leo to do a film about liberal celebrities pathetically lecturing the proletariat about their carbon footprint and love of firearms while traveling the world in their private jets and armed guards!
DiCaprio is a talented guy, but I can't imagine this being anything approaching a blockbuster. It seems to me like it would have limited audience appeal. In fact, I'd think a PBS documentary would be a better venue for this subject.
Probably straight to DVD; I can't imagine movie audiences lining up to pay big screen money to see this.

Yeah it can get worse. Michael Moore will write the screen play that DiCaprio will direct. They need to find a role for Robert Redford, Jane Fonda, Matt Damon, Susan Sarandon, and every other reliable lefty.
Who will play Hitler, who will play Mussolini? Because of course those two will need to be tossed into the mix.
This is heap big trouble for VW. Not because of decrappio. But because people are so stupidified currently that they think movies are real life.
Now, if VW were on top of their game, they'd make some discreet inquiries into how many Bentleys, Lamborghinis, and Porsches Mr. DeCrappio would like in his humble garage.
The problem with a movie is it lasts forever. If it is a good one, people will watch it over and over and be reminded of the VW cover-up. Unless you are an automobile enthusiast or a stock trader, people tend to forget about the Toyoda intended acceleration or the GM ignition control. Unfortunately for VW, people are going to be reminded for many years to come.
I expect a lot of suffering companies will benefit from this.
I hope to see scenes like this one (Gregory Peck as Josef Mengele who finds out that 'ze little one' has planted something):
