Re: Cadillac XTS and Buick Regal Confirmed!

Why call it XTS? It has nothing in common with XLR, except for the fact that they are both just Chevys with a few more bells and whistles.

SRX should be renamed XRX, to maintain some level of consistency, since it too is based o a Chevy

As long as this new sedan bests it competition, is beautiful to look at and drive, sells well and enhances the name of Cadillac it could be called "Roast-Rat-On-A-Stick" for all I care. What possible difference could its designation make?

I'll go for the awd version of the roast rat on a stick.
Actually I kinda like the name: X for awd TS for touring sedan.

How about XTC as a play on words?

Re: Cadillac XTS and Buick Regal Confirmed!

I seriously doubt that the XTS will be anything more than Cadillac's competitor for the Lincoln MKS and the cheaper versions will be priced just above the most expensive versions of the LaCrosse. This car will be nothing like the Audi A8. I would guess it will use the 3.6L V6 with the premium version being a hybrid.

Maybe this dates me, but I like the sound of 'Cadillac DeVille' or 'Cadillac Brougham'. This numbers and letters stuff leaves me cold, and I think if Cadillac embraced their enviable heritage by using some of those time-honored names starting 2010, they'd be rewarded....as long as the cars themselves are stunning to look at, and are powerfully, sensuously luxurious to drive, with killer interiors. I hope they have fins, but this time around as extensions of the tail lamp lenses vs. the rear fender itself, as on the Converj. I'd love it if, as the years go by, those fins get bigger and bigger just like in the 50s. I think that if Cadillac honors and expands its current momentum, it could help save GM from itself.

Just as Datsun did a slow phase-in of the Nissan name in the 80's using word pairings, Cadillac could offer the Eldorado CTS, the DeVille DTS, the Escalade SRX.....what name could the Converj be launched under?

Re: Cadillac XTS and Buick Regal Confirmed!

I admit to a place inside me that would love to see a "named" car from Cadillac again. I suppose there is a lot to the notion that non-named, numeric or alpha, or alpha-numeric names do what they're supposed to do. People think more on the overall brand name rather than the individual model. If it didn't work that way all the other luxury makers would be naming rather numbering their cars. And I still feel that a model name or designation is nearly irrelevant as long as its a great product that sells well to a happy group of buyers.

But I too wonder if it's not time to establish a new paradigm for luxury cars. "Fleetwood" is a great name and rolls off the tongue beautifully. But, then again, this too bears the name of Fleetwood:

I think it's just a sign of the times in modern America. The letter "X" has come to mean power, bigger, better, etc. While obviously the average luxury customer is smart enough not to be sucked in by marketing schemes, the fact is there are a lot of fools out there with money to burn. If slapping an "X" on the name somehow gets them to take a look at the car, it's probably worth it.

Personally, since the CTS has been established as Caddy's mainstream midsize sedan (whether they will admit it or not), I would like to see the car remain the DTS. Then when the Alpha caddy arrives, name it BTS. Of course, I'm also the guy that would like to see the CTS wagon be named the CTW, and the coupe the CTC. As these things will likely never happen, they might as well throw together whatever three letters they think sound best.

How about a woody Cadillac wagon called the "Fleetwood Mac"?

It is really annoying that so many people and the automotive press all rag on Cadillacs being based on Chevys and Buicks. Maybe Chevys are based on Cadillacs. And nowadays almost every car within a brand is based on some other car. No one complains that Audis are tarted up VWs. Everyone needs to get off their automotive high horses and take each car for what it is. A good car or a bad car.

Re: Cadillac XTS and Buick Regal Confirmed!

I want the PR Departments to stop talking and start showing; give use some examples of the designs they contemplated over the last 7 or eight years so they can get some feedback. We can't tell them what to do, but if something isn't available soon what there is of the market may be carved up by the brands with the merchandise: Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, FORD Lincoln, Volvo, Lexus, etc.

It's not that Cadillac doesn't build cars; they don't have enough strong ones, that haven't grown long in the tooth and obsolete.

About the nomenclature give Cadillac names that people remember/legacy: Eldorado, Deville, Fleetwood, Seville, on model differentiation they can give meaningful alpha numerics Eldorado ECT 3.0.
