Re: Cadillac XTS and Buick Regal Confirmed!

I have read that the EpiII platform was very versatile, being able to be stretched in length and width, and that it could accommodate a V8.
It is my understanding that the awd set up in the SRX can transfer up to 95% of the traction to any wheel, even though it is fwd/awd.
With the haldex system being so versatile, why couldn't it be set up to deliver 60% of the power to the rear wheels, giving it a rwd feel?

I thought that was just the Buick.

So this Cadillac wont be RWD?

Actually is it even logical to have the Impala living for almost 10 years with no refresh?
As for the Malibu and Impala being on the same platform...just think of the new Regal and LaCrosse. They are both on Epsilon II, but the LaCrosse is significantly larger and different from the Regal. I think it is a plan that will work.

THANK YOU!!! Regal should be here NOW or no later than next year to be relevant. AGAIN, by the time a new GM model reaches our shores, it will be outdated, light-years behind the competition. And to make matters worse, the Chinese market will probably be receiving their ALL-NEW Regal when we get their hand-me-down model...RIDICULOUS, INFURIATING and DUMB. I'm afraid Cruze will have the same fate.

Re: Cadillac XTS and Buick Regal Confirmed!

Front wheel drive is great for an economy car, but I wasn't aware Cadillac was entering that market.

And I see nothing wrong with importing a few Insignias from Germany to sell here in low numbers just so the LaCrosse can have a decent car to be sold along side of it.

But usual hybrids don't have battery packs, correct? That is what makes me think you might have been refering to a Voltec-style powerplant...which if done well, could let Cadillac leap frog the competition as it once did habitually in decades past.

Re: Cadillac XTS and Buick Regal Confirmed!

2011 is a long ways off. The Regal should be here next year. I can somewhat understand them wanting to distance it from LaCrosse's release, because Regal would cannibalize LaCrosse sales. It's just a damn shame this car isn't going to be available anytime soon.

But I believe they're waiting for the Insignia to be updated, before offering the NA Regal. This gives me mixed feelings, as it will allow for more Buick-y looking Regal, yes, but the Insignia is such a beautiful car as is already.

XTS I believe will surprise many. If rumours of a Voltec powertrain are true, then the car will be ground-breaking.

One can only hope...................
The A8 is on the same platform as the Jetta/A4/Passat/A6/Phaeton, which means it is FWD/AWD, but AWD is standard.

Re: Cadillac XTS and Buick Regal Confirmed!

I read on Autobloggreen that GM had contracted for Li ion batteries to work with their light hybrid for late next year. I assume it is the BAS+ system, and could be the hybrid portion of the new cars. If it could accelerate a car to highway speed on battery power alone, you could see 35 mpg city ratings.

That should be in the FWD/AWD LaCrosse.

And the full size LWB Zeta DTS should have horsepower up the ass.

LWB Epsilon II LaCrosse 201"
44k 3.5L V6 @ 310hp FWD/AWD
60k 4.0L V8 @ 370hp AWD
76k 4.0L V8 Hybrid @ 420hp AWD

LWB Zeta DTS 206"
55k 4.0L V8 Twin Turbo @ 420hp RWD/AWD
75k 5.0L V10 Twin Turbo @ 510hp RWD/AWD
95k 6.0L V12 Twin Turbo @ 610hp AWD

I'm pretty sure the current A8/Phaeton/Bentley models are on a seperate platform, and that most of the new Audi's (A4 and up) are or will soon be on their own platform which places the engine behind the front wheels like in a RWD car. Meanwhile, the A3/Jetta and Passat will continue on their own more traditional FWD platform(s).

Either way, the 2010 Lacrosse is already as big on the outside as an 5-series class car, so I don't doubt that they can strech it to S-class size if they try.

Re: Cadillac XTS and Buick Regal Confirmed!

Epsilon based automaticly puts a V8 out of the picture.
Cant have a flagship without a V8, sorry.
AWD, thats cool. If I were Caddy, Id buy a fleet of A8's, S550's, and 750's. It would need to be built in its own factory, or perhaps in a flex facility in Lansing.
No twin turbo V6's, V8 or better.
I dont understand why cant they make a LWB Zeta Caddy.
