So either way you are out of a job if you work in a plant.

You have two choices. Give some stuff up and hope that GM turns it around. Or don't and watch as it burns down.

If I was in that position, I'd be looking at whatever helps me in the long run and if that means taking a cut now to protect my pension then I'd do it.

Of course many people aren't long term thinkers so that may be hard for them to grasp.

They show G3XX product. I hope they don't shutter Janesville, that plant was building cars before sliced bread... literally.
Make a wagon fine. But does it have to be a CTS? And does it have to be sold here? No one seems to get the negative side to having a fleet of similiarly styled products. I just saw an XLR this morning and it looked to me about as fresh as an old Allante.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: UAW Details Future GM Production & Product Plans In Documents Released

Some quick thoughts to ponder:

Is the "Chevrolet Lambda Vehichle" scheduled for Delta Township in 2011 possibly be the minivan that was cancelled for Spring Hill?

Will the Vold essentially serve as a replacement for the Cobalt, and if so will it be offered in gasoline and Hybred forms?

Regarding the G6, I know that the Automotive news has reported that the decision to make the next gen G6 front or rear-wheel-drive has not been made. The decsion that will be made will perhaps determine the amount of investment in Orion. If it is rear-wheel-drive, there will have to be more intense modifications as opposed to if it is just front-wheel-drive. The Alpha cars at Lordstown are more than likely allocated to Cadillac

Is the midsize "Chevrolet Global Epsilon Car" just a safety valve for Hamtramck in case the Volt and CUV do not take off in sales?

Having a similar design theme is a benifit. It gives the models a family face that makes them recognizable. Any time you see a modern Cadillac you know it's a Cadillac, same with BMWs, Mercs, Audis, etc.

As for building a wagon, why not have a coupe, sedan and wagon version of the most popular model? They will most likeley do the same for the upcoming C-segment model, just like the German companies do. I don't think they need an S-segment wagon, but they need a big coupe and hopefully we'll see that too with the Zeta DTS/STS replacement. I would also like to see a C and E-segment convertible. I don't think Cadillac needs a Lambda or Theta-Epsilon, but an Alpha-based crossover to match the likes of the X3 would be nice to replace the SRX which isn't needed thanks to the Escalade. Let Buick sell the luxury family 3-row crossover along with subdued (not flashy, i.e. blingtastic like Caddy) luxury cars.

It is unfortunate someone is simple-minded enough to release all this info to the general public. Hopefully it is a watered-down/generic version, since all new release dates point to 2011/2012

Most if not all of this information was already known to competitors. Chrysler's internal database has gotten a few clarification updates, but nothing shocking here.

Careful readers of the better GM boards already knew 80% or more of this.

Janesville Assembly actually opened in 1919 as Samson Tractor Division of GM. It was then converted to car assembly in 1923. Up until 2002, it was home to 3 different lines - GMT800, GMT520 and Isuzu NPR. A huge factory. Over 4 million sq. ft. I give them a lot of credit to continue producing world-class vehicles as they are working with a plant layout from the 20's with small aisle ways, various truck docks, etc. Imagine what they could do with a brand new plant? Hopefully that happens once the GMT900 lifecycle is over. I see a flexible plant that can switch from trucks to cars to crossovers in Janesville's future!

What's going to happen to the Moraine, Ohio assembly plant (the plant where they make the midsize SUV's)

Now I know---

Moraine is only non-UAW assembly plant in the US. They are represented by IUE/CWA. Their negotiations begin this week.
