The best, worst and weirdest car names

The best, worst and weirdest car names

Explorer, Ram certainly make sense, but how’d they come up with Alero?

Go to a McDonald's in Paris and you will notice several cheeseburgers in the "Royal" line: the Royal Deluxe, Royal Cheese and Royal Bacon ("royal" means the same thing in French and English).
McDonald's France says on its Web site that the Royal Cheese wears a sesame-seed bun for a crown. "It looks, in fact, like a king," the site states.
Folks, it's just a cheeseburger.

Re: The best, worst and weirdest car names

Why is Vue and Fiero under "Fake names"? "Vue" is "view" in French. "Fiero" is one of the words for "ugly" in Spanish- bet GM didn't research that.
Of the current ones in use, I hate the name Malibu. It sounds dumb and what's that supposed to evoke? Images of millionaire liberal Hollywood types trying to steal the beach and the ocean for themselves. LaCrosse also has to go and be replaced by Regal. Acadia is also terrible. And any alphanumeric that uses X, which by now is almost every car manufacturer.

What is a Camry?

I'd say that's as much a non-word as Lumina.

Kanmuri = Crown in Japanese

Toyota Crown and Toyota Corona also share this.

And Camry is an anagram for "My Car".

Re: The best, worst and weirdest car names

I was just reading this on MSNBC.com ... kinda funny.

Quote:
Alphanumeric names are not particularly memorable, meaning that with a piece of this nature, you can skip over everything in the current rosters of Acura, BMW, Jaguar, Volvo, Saleen, Hummer, Infiniti, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz.
Apparently so 'not memorable' that they forgot to mention Cadillac in this list. I wish the car companies agreed with this. I like my SRX, but I hate its name. Would prefer a name on my car.

Quote:
Then there are just inexplicable misspellings, such as the Chevrolet Luv truck. Ditto for the Pontiac Aztek.
This is the result of marketing MBAs believing that they are lending magic to the product development process.

Quote:
Those car names that just don't make any sense to us include, among others, the Buick Reatta; Oldsmobile Achieva, Bravada, Firenza and Futuramic; Pontiac Astre and Fiero; and the Saturn Vue.
Wow, picking on GM in that sentence. I agree, though ... some silly names in that list.

Quote:
We doubt any celebrities ever owned Chevrolet Celebrity station wagons
Too funny.

Quote:
Among the ones that made us smile are the Daihatsu Motor Naked; Honda Life Dunk and That's; Isuzu GIGA 20 Light Dump and Mysterious Utility; Mazda Motor Bongo; Mitsubishi Delica Space Gear and Pistachio; Nissan Fairlady Z and Prairie Joy; Rickman Space Ranger; Rinspeed X-Dream; Suzuki Cappucino; Toyota Motor Deliboy and Toyopet; Volkswagen Thing and Volugrafo Bimbo. We think it's a shame that the Honda Life Dunk doesn't sell over here. Its goofy yet inspiring name would probably attract a fair number of buyers.
Yes! Definitely lost in translation. Absolutely hilarious. Honda Life Dunk?

One of the worst names for a car was the Chevy Citation. Just a horrible name for a car.

kinda sad how the majority of the Domestics come from GM. i dont see how the celebrity is a wierd name, as much as it should have been on a nicer vehicle than what it was used for.

Exactly. Let's name a car after a traffic ticket.
