For Cadillac-philes

Power APEAL Survey: Lexus on Top, Caddy and Jag Improve

The latest J.D. Power study of which vehicles push the right buttons - the APEAL study, for automotive performance, execution and layout - finds that the Lexus brand is still the most coveted by shoppers. However, with 43 new or redesigned models on the market for 2004 (including some 2005 models), many new nameplates show up on the new survey -names like the Chrysler 300 and Chevy Malibu, Pontiac GTO and Nissan Armada. Brands like Jaguar and Cadillac saw significant improvements in their overall rankings thanks to new vehicles like the SRX and XJ series, as did Mazda and Mitsubishi. You can see more results by following the link below. The 2004 survey results are based on responses from 102,951 new-vehicle owners who were surveyed during the first 90 days of ownership.

And don't miss the GTO's number 1 ranking among sporty cars. Who woulda thunk?

It's also interesting to note that the GTO's companions were all 4-cylinder cars. Wow, tough competition.

I'm not so sure I follow your point.

Toyota had no top three entries in these 11 categories: entry midsize car, premium midsize car, full-size car, mid-luxury car, sporty car, premium sports car, compact pick-up, Light-Duty Full-Size Pickup, Heavy-Duty Full-Size Pickup, Entry SUV, and Midsize SUV.

GM's count is eight category absences.

And while Toyota arguably can't be faulted for not having an entry in premium sports car and Heavy-Duty Full-Size Pickup, GM similarly cannot be faulted for not having an entry in the Premium Luxury Car category.

I don't understand this survery. Subaru Baja as most appealing compact truck? How many of those have they sold? 600?

Entry luxury SUV and the SRX isn't even on the list (when it's selling like mad and won 2004 best lux SUV).

I think the GTOs recent success is because GM found the right price (after discounts). Seriously, they need to price the '05 at $29,995 and market it as the "fastest car under 30k". Just like Dodge did w/ the Magnum.

Has anyone ever seen this survey? Do they just list a bunch of car names in a group and the uninformed surveyor choose which one they like best? Or do they list some MSRP and specs along with the name?

And no one said anything about Toyota. So it was an arbitrary company for you to mention. Why not Ford? Or Honda? Maybe there's a grudge there, I don't know.
Your GTO quote made it sound as if you were dogging GM so I don't think the previous guy thinks too much. Either you really did have a point that was nulled by the previous guy or you just don't think before you write. The reason the previous guy chose Toyota as the company to compare to is because lets face it, Toyota is the car company everyopne wants to beat in many categories that Toyota currently lead. You don't think enough.

I find it hard to believe that people in America prefer the 911 to the Vette... There is something wrong here. i all other surveys the Vette has always topped those Rankings

Looks like Lutz was right for bringing the GTO if only for one reason - look at Pontiac's appeal scores. this is for a company that is trying to sell its product on appeal. now, imagine how much lower that score you see would be w/out the most appealing sporty car. i think from this angle, the GTO was very necessary and has been a success. i don't know if theres a way to prove it, but i bet the GTO brought a lot of people into the dealership who ended up buying a different pontiac - maybe they didn't like the trunk size so the salesguy pushed a GTP on them. can any salesmen here verify or negate this?

This is about the most worthless survey I have seen.

Compact Van
Highest Ranked: Toyota Sienna
Nissan Quest
Mercury Monterey

They can't give away Quests and Montereys.

Light-Duty Full-Size Pickup
Highest Ranked: Cadillac Escalade EXT
Nissan Titan
Ford F-150 LD

Titans are have tons of quality issues and are selling way under expectations.
Cadillac as top Pickup. Thats crazy talk.

personally, i think its just good to see the malibu and the GTO at the top of their categories. Now if only more people took JD Powers surveys into consideration before saying the imports were "so much better"

The Vette out performs the 911, yet its priced lower, offer you heritage, style and as good as an interior as any sports car. For less. Why would I buy the 911? Its also Americas favorite sports car, only the Mustang rivals it...

These results are very strange. Whats more surprising, that the Malibu came in first, or that Kia and Hyundia came in 2nd and 3rd. I wish it shows all the cars in each catergory. Also, Vettes are awesome, but 911s kick d!ck as well. The Porsche has a much nicer interior.

I'm glad the Malibu came first, but the Sonata and Optima getting 2nd and 3rd!?! I may not like the Camry or Accord, but I do think they deserve those spots more.
