Re: GMI Going to Lutz's Race, Teaming With Autoline After Hours

I have to agree with what's been said already. Its great to see GMI being recognized as being a legitimate news outlet with an invititation to this event.

I've been reading news on this forum much longer than I've actually been posting. Keep up the good work fellas. I spend hours on this site every week.

Hoey, may I ask what publication or media outlet you are affiliated with?

Must be sinking in with him, print magazines are going down the tubes. About the only reason they stay afloat are ads for tires or floormats. (or ***** pills) But he is right sort of. It's a PR stunt. Can't figure out what's pissing him off though. Must be GM isn't using that Carp and Drivel trademark word "comparo" in this stunt. GM and Lutz are getting "press" all over the boards. This buzz doesn't fly in ink. Who cares to read about this stuff when it's been over for a couple months. And that's whats going to kill all the big magazines. The little ones will survive.

Alright, well Hoey Im glad that you have a great job, and I appreciate people like you, but dont look down your nose at us, really. It doesnt reflect well on C&D if you are going to have this attitude.
We have to start somewhere man...I wish you would just give us your blessings and wish us good luck.

On Autoblog's first invite to a Ferrari first drive they wrecked a pre-production California.

I think you mistake the real publications not wanting to waste their time on uneventful events with not being invited. We were sent an invite to this press sham, and cordially declined.

The thing I find funny is that Hoey complains that he can't get a ZR1 to stay the night, then he also says that they were invited and turned it down. Well if you don't want to be part of a manufacturers "stunt" and invitations, then whats the point of them even bothering with your publication?

In any case, I find this an exciting chance for GMI.

Better question is why is he here complaining?

Carp & Drivel has ethics? Now that's a joke.

Re: GMI Going to Lutz's Race, Teaming With Autoline After Hours

I like Car and Driver a lot - far more than Motor Trend, for example. Also, Patrick wrote for Autosavant a few times before C/D hired him.

He has a pretty cool job there from what I've seen, but he's just starting out in his career. I believe he's what they used to call a "Road Warrior," who helps them with the tests, etc. No reason to disparage GMI or the sites participating in this event.

At last!
I've always wondered (and remember saying so on GMI a few times over the years) why GM kept refusing to understand that a community of GM enthusiasts was a good thing for them to have around, and that collaborating with them could only help.

Looks like they saw the light. Out of curiosity, did that happen only under the "New GM", or was the GMI recognition process already under way before Ch11?

It all started after emerging from CH 11. Having dealt with GM Communications both before and after bankruptcy, I can testify that attitudes are vastly different within that department of the organization. They no longer play the role of corporate gate-keeper, but rather they actually try to engage media and customers.

In the matter of a week they had a conference scheduled with me to discuss GMI. And they did not push it off on middle-management; a couple of those that I talked with report directly to Lutz.

This in contrast to Toyota, who threatens to sue anytime their enthusiast sites use one of their trademarked terms and tell the sites that they are "too harsh" on the company.
