GMI Design Contests Back!

GMI Design Contests Back!

I'm happy to announce that GMI's monthly design contest will be returning back to its normal state. The current staff has become too busy with other aspects of the site or their personal lives to keep it up like it needs. Because of that we have promoted two GMI members that are passionate about the design contests to "Design Contest Officials" and have given them the needed access to fully carry out the GMI Design Contests.

The two new Design Contest Officials are: A.J. and chaseabryant. You will notice their user titles have changed to "GMI Design Contest Official."

To clarify; this position is not a staff member position. Please continue to contact GMI Staff Members whose names show up in blue or myself concerning problems with other areas of the site.

Thank you guys for stepping up and helping out!!

Maybe I will join this one... nothing wrong with making 3D designs rather than photoshop right?

I'm considering anything not drawn on paper or made from an image a rendering.

Re: GMI Design Contests Back!

I think the contests took a huge loss when the link was taken off of the front page, is there anywhere you guys could squeeze that in?

Re: GMI Design Contests Back!

I agree... there is plenty of room on the homepage to have a link on there for the design contest and for the RIA design segments.

Re: GMI Design Contests Back!

As well as the design contests being back, we have also gotten the Photoshop Contest back on its feet!

I'm really happy to see that these sections will be running on track again, and I sure hope to see a lot of talented designers return to the contests!

Thanks Everybody!

Re: GMI Design Contests Back!

I've never entered a single contest, but I enjoy checking out everyone's work. In the years I've been admiring them, I can't recall many contests where at least one entry didn't completely amaze me.

Speaking of years, thanks Rex for all the time and effort you've put into them. I do hope you'll at least enter a few from time to time. You new guys have some big shoes to fill. Good luck!

I would also like to see a link to the design contests on the front page. But the real spotlight should be on the design competitions and not the weekly photo mod contests--the monthly contests are just more prestigious and are more deserving of the front page IMO.

Finally, If someone wins the monthly contest you might also consider allowing them to choose the next contest as an award.

Just my thoughts!

And thank you for your thoughs, we do appreciate them, and are interested in hearing them. The happier the forum members are with the contests, hopefully the more there will be participating!

I do have to agree that Rex really does deserve a big thanks and a pat on the back. It really is a lot of work to get all of this together. Hopefully A.J. and I will be able to keep things running smoothly from now on.

Something that we are trying out for this month is having the photoshop competition last for the entire month rather than just a week, mainly in hopes that more people might want to participate. The longer time perod may give those that may not have all of the experience with photoshop a chance to take their time in the competition, and let them be able to perfect their work.

One thing that we have planned is possibly making a thread where everybody can post theme suggestions for future contests. You will definately be seeing some slight tweaks in the way that the design competition is set up next month, nothing big, just some things that will make entering for you guys and managing for us easier. I do like the idea of the winner being able to choose what the next design contest will be. I'll have to see what A.J. thinks about that.

-Chase

Re: GMI Design Contests Back!

Congrats on the "Promotion" Chase and A.J.

I'll actually try to enter one soon, though the exclusion of paper drawn entries is a bit of a hurdle for me. I've only got paint

Re: GMI Design Contests Back!

As ever, I eagerly anticipate the creative outpourings of our resident GMI artistes . . .

Sadly, I shall not be entering, as, to paraphrase a certain Captain Edmund Blackadder, I have about as much artistic talent as a cluster of color-blind hedgehogs, in a bag.
