Well, if he is a stinky whatsit, then it's a fact, not an insult. There are also a number of definition for a whatsit. Therein lies the macrame of moderation.

He told me he's banned for 4 months. That seems way too long to me for what was an action without any warnings and is meant to be temporary. I don't think the mods realise how an internet week is like a real life month when you are addicted to a site.

Trouble is that after a week or two the member will go looking for an alternative and never come back. Better to give them 10 days ban followed by 3 months "Good Behavior" trial where they commit to some action. In the case of someone like t-rex you make him stay out of all political threads for the 3 months. Someone who is abusive to others has to say make no personal comments of any sort for 3 months. If they break their commitment then it's another 10 days ban, third breach makes it permanent.

Something like that I think would be both disciplinary and reforming without it being in effect a permanent ban simply by being so long as to drive the user to a new site. Just my personal opinion....

I agree. Give members a choice, get rid of ban (or infractions) with limits, breaching of the terms results in a perminant ban if it is a ban you had, and a 1 month ban if you had infractions wiped off.

Huh, I didn't know this site ever had a four month ban. In my observations, it's always been first a ten day ban, then a permanent ban. I like your idea of a probationary period.

Hahaha.

I wondered where trex was.

Other than his Howie schLong and Jewishness, he does spend time talking about how stupid and tasteless most Americans, aka most trailer trash, are.

It would be nice to see a management/membership discussion of the policies and options.
Four months does seem odd. Usually in a functioning system these things go in steps.

I know this is neither a democracy nor a republic. Am I correct that the site makes $$ for every post posted?

Re: GMI Announces New Moderation Method

T-Rex does have 4-month ban. If we were to follow protocol, he would have been permanently banned and we did not feel that was needed at this time.

As the Site Rules state, we have the option to forgo the Infraction system if we feel it is necessary. That is what happened in this case. The Infraction System has been updated and we will update it in the Site Rules page in the next few days.
