* October market share was 8.8 per cent, up 0.5 percentage points
* Tenth consecutive month of year-over-year monthly share gains; fifth successive month of year-over-year monthly volume increase
* Ka sales more than doubled in first ten months of the year – up 48,300 units to 90,500
* Strong performance in Germany; best October for 11 years; market leader in the UK, Ireland and Hungary in October; leading import brand in France and Italy
* Ford remains Europe's No.2 best-selling brand
* Year-to-date market share at 9.1 per cent, up 0.5 percentage points – highest since 1999
* Share increased in 16 out 19 European markets in both October and year-to-date
* Fiesta continues to be Europe's No.2 best-selling car. More than 500,000 sold globally in just one year

COLOGNE, November 11, 2009 – Ford achieved its highest October market share and car sales volume since 1997 with total sales of 121,000 new vehicles and a market share of 8.8 per cent in its 19 main European markets.

"This is the strongest October we've had in Europe for 12 years, and it shows we must be doing the right thing in the eyes of our customers," said Ingvar Sviggum, Ford of Europe's Vice-President for Marketing, Sales and Service. "The key is having the right products at the right time for our customers, and this is why we're now the clear No.2 best-selling brand in the European auto industry."

"What's more, we've also seen a dramatic increase in the quality of our sales. In October, 64 per cent our car sales were to retail customers, compared to 48 percent in October 2008. Last month, 80 per cent of Fiesta, 75 per cent of Ka and 70 per cent of Kuga sales were to retail customers."

Ford sales in October increased by 13,800 units, or 12.8 per cent, compared to October 2008, whereas total industry sales in Ford's main 19 European markets improved by 6.8 per cent. Ford's market share rose by 0.5 percentage points in comparison to October last year.

"Ford Ka sales continue to rocket in 2009 – year-to-date they’ve more than doubled. We've sold a total of 90,500 units this year, up by 48,300 compared to the first ten months of last year. Fiesta sales are now more than 500,000 units globally since the car was first launched in Europe last year," continued Mr. Sviggum.

"Ford was market leader in the UK, Ireland and Hungary, and import leader in France and Italy. Germany had its best October since 1998, with sales up 33 per cent, or 6,000 units, last October – a really terrific performance given the backdrop of the ending of the scrappage scheme in the country."

"But we do need to balance this positive news with concerns for the future. Next year is still something of an unknown quantity, but our current forecast is for an industry between 13.0 and 14.5 million units. That's down roughly two million vehicles versus this year. Given the ongoing weakness in the European market, further actions are needed at both the national and EU level to help bolster consumer confidence and demand," Sviggum added.

*Year-to-date *
Ford increased its share by 0.5 percentage points to 9.1 per cent, the best October year-to-date share for Ford since 1999 in its main 19 European markets. Share was up in 16 out of the 19 main markets.

In the first ten months of 2009, Ford registered 1,218,100 vehicles in its 19 European markets, a reduction of 37,300 units or 3 per cent lower than in the same period in 2008. Year-to-date across its 51 markets, Ford of Europe sold 1,394,700 vehicles, a decrease of 155,000 units, or 10 per cent fewer than in the same period in 2008.

*US auto giant General Motors says it has extended its record sales streak in China, selling more than 1.5 million units this year in contrast to weak sales at home since exiting bankruptcy.*

GM and its Chinese joint venture partners passed the 1.5 million mark on Monday after a strong October pushed sales for the first 10 months to about 1.46 million, the company said in a statement.

The company has already passed its 1.3 million units sold in 2008.

"This has been a year of records for GM in China," Kevin Wale, GM China Group president, said in the statement.

GM said it sold 166,911 vehicles in October - more than double the number sold in the same month a year earlier.

The automaker sold 177,603 new vehicles in the United States in October, up four per cent from the same month in 2008 and its first year-on-year gain since January 2008.

GM emerged from a 40-day bankruptcy reorganisation backed by the US and Canadian governments in July.

China's passenger cars sales in October surged 75.8 percent from a year earlier, official data showed, extending the explosive growth in recent months as government incentive policies continued to lure customers.

A total of 946,400 passenger cars were sold in October, up sharply from 538,500 units sold a year earlier, but slightly lower that 1.02 million units sold in September, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers said on Monday.

"Autumn is usually the best auto selling season. But it is not that obvious this year as sales have been so strong all along," said Qin Xuwen, an analyst with Orient Securities.

China's auto market has been a major bright spot amid a global industry downturn thanks to a raft of government incentives which had effectively bolstered consumer confidence.

Overall vehicle sales, from trucks to buses, jumped 72.48 percent in October to 1.23 million units from a year earlier, the association said, after gaining 77.99 percent in September.

General Motors [GM.UL] more than doubled its China sales to 166,911 vehicles in October, continuing its string of monthly sales records since the beginning of the year.

Ford Motor's (F.N) car venture in China sold 20,027 Ford brand vehicles in October, up 80 percent from a year earlier, company data showed.

Full-size pickup trucks from Ford and General Motors once again grabbed the two best-seller positions last month, and most saw their sales rise compared to October 2008.

With the post- Cash-for-Clunkers bust over and sales figures being compared to a period of slowdown a year ago, the auto industry is seeing numbers that look much more positive than those in months past.

Of the six best-selling automakers in the U.S., five either saw small sales gains or effectively held steady compared to this time last year -- only Chrysler bucked the trend to shed a further 31 percent of its sales.

And for almost everyone who sells them, large highly-profitable trucks are once more returning respectable sales figures...

DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 3, 2009 – Ford, Lincoln and Mercury October U.S. sales totaled 132,483, up 3 percent versus a year ago and 21 percent higher than September. This marks the third time in the last four months Ford sales have increased.

“Consumer demand for our new high-quality, fuel-efficient products is driving Ford’s market share gains,” said Ken Czubay, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing Sales and Service. “Ford vehicles are among the ‘freshest’ available by any automaker – with more than 80 percent of our sales in October coming from our new 2010 models.”

Ford estimates its total market share in October was more than 15 percent – higher than a year ago and higher than its share in the first nine months of 2009. Ford’s October retail share was up for the 12th time in 13 months.

“The Ford plan is working, led by the strength of our product lineup and customer demand for our new cars, utilities and trucks,” said Czubay. “Consumers increasingly are noticing that the Ford difference is our great products, our strong business and our leadership in quality, fuel efficiency, safety, smart technologies and value.”

    * Ford’s F-Series truck achieved sales of 39,496 and a year-to-year share increase in the full-size pickup category. In addition, the all-new Ford F-150 SVT Raptor captured the coveted “Truck of Texas” award from the Texas Auto Writer’s Association. Ford’s F-Series has been the No. 1-selling truck in America for 32 years straight.
    * Ford’s new EcoBoost engine technology is winning customers, too. In October, sales of EcoBoost-equipped models were twice as high as September. EcoBoost provides customers up to 20 percent improvement in fuel economy and a 15 percent reduction in emissions versus larger-displacement engines. EcoBoost is standard on the Taurus SHO and available on the Ford Flex, Lincoln MKS and Lincoln MKT.
