Did my first brake job!

After squeezing 73,000 miles out of my stock brakes it was time to upgrade. A quick call later to the nice people at Summit and they sent me out their Ultra Performance Brake Kit with new ceramic pads and rotors (at an excellent price).

Image: http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s145/ElwayFanJ/BrakeJob1.jpg

I've never done a brake job before but internet instructional videos made me confident (basic hand tools and a dream).

Image: http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s145/ElwayFanJ/BrakeJob2.jpg

After spending a few brutal winters in Iowa and Nebraska I thought everything would be rusted to hell but I was pleasantly surprised at how easily the stock stuff came off (penetrating lube the night before helped).

Image: http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s145/ElwayFanJ/BrakeJob5.jpg

A little comparison between the stock brakes and the Summit kit.

Image: http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s145/ElwayFanJ/BrakeJob3.jpg

Even more surprisingly; the new parts went on relatively easily and bleeding the brake system was cake.

Image: http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s145/ElwayFanJ/BrakeJob4.jpg

All said and done, if anybody is looking at replacing or upgrading their Silverado's brakes I can highly recommend the Summit Ultra Performance Kit. I saved a ton of money compared to what the local brake shop quoted me for basic replacement brakes and these work amazingly well.

Rear Object Sensor Package added to my G8 GT

Forgive the cell phone photos and unwashed car. My wife has the digital camera right now and it has rained a lot the past few days here.

For the bargain price of $389 installed I got the rear sensor package put on my G8GT. I have missed this feature from my LaCrosse CXS quite a bit.

Image: http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa299/hitman1970/G8GtRearObjectSensor.jpg

The speaker unit has three settings Off, Low, and High. The manual recommends Off for trailering or mounting a bike frame on the back. The manual (2007) features a digram of a Holden Monaro/Pontiac GTO for the example installation. The speaker is velcroed to a post forward and above the battery.

Image: http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa299/hitman1970/G.jpg

All that is left from GM accessories that I want is the splash guards. They have been on order for like three months now. I may put on that chrome gas cap in a year or so too.
