From what I recall, the Phase5 was specifically sponsored/designed to race as a very close to stock (for NHRA) Cobalt.
No offense to the Rear-Wheel-Drive V8 powered tube frame with fiberglass shell "Cobalts" out there, but I think Erica Nocita's wins are potentially more important for GM and the Cobalt's street cred.
The rest are about as relevant to GM's image as the RWD V8 "Berettas" that race at a track not far from me. Fun to watch, but there's no one out there thinking they're really looking at a (RWD!!) Beretta. Most NHRA and NASCAR fans could apparently care less about that sort of thing, of course.
Its all about loud noise, fast cars, and lots of cheering.
