US safety regulators probe Scion moonroof failures

DETROIT, July 11 (Reuters) -
U.S. auto safety regulators said on Tuesday they had begun an investigation of whether the glass moonroof in the Scion tC is prone to shatter, risking passenger injury in the sport coupe made by Toyota Motor Corp.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)said it had received nine reports from consumers, who said the glass in the moonroof had shattered, raining fragments down on the passenger seating area in some cases.
In one case, a person reported being cut by the falling glass, NHTSA said.
