You can get about 454 cubes out of the small block so there is still some size on it. And just because the LS8 is one number above LS7 doesnt mean that the engine is getting any bigger.

From what I know the LS8 is a low cost supercharged engine while the LS9 is a high cost supercharged engine. The only thing that can probably be confirmed is the 6.2L size for the LS3 and VVT. Other then that the rest is just rumor, but it would be awesome for the next gen CTS V to come in 2 door, 4 door, and convertible form with 450BHP and better aimed at the BMW M3 which is to get a 400+BHP V-8.

Im guessing that the LS8 is directly related to the LS3 being 6.2L in size but has a low cost supercharger system. I can also see the LS8 going into Chevy SS vehicles including the next gen SS Silverado. I see the LS7 and LS9 being related in they both use the same block. however the LS9 might be smaller in dissplacement but I dont see them using a 3 valve head or a two cam in block (from what Ive heard those ideas are dead) and we only have one document that shows the LS9 being DOHC and that could be mere coding or just a test head. My ideal line upLS4 gets killed when the Impala/Grand Prix gets moved to the Zeta platform and the Vortec 5300 is based on a Gen IV block.

LS2 6.0L 400BHP - GTO, Camaro, Impala SS, Pontiac G8 GTP, and other performanc RWD cars
LS3 6.2L VVT 450BHP - Cadillac CTS V, C6 corvette
LS7 7.0L VVT direct injection 550BHP - C6 Z06, CTS V plus
LS8 6.2L VVT supercharged 500BHP - Camaro SS, GTO Judge
LS9 6.2L??? 7.0L??? VVT direcet injection supercharged 650BHP - Corvette SS

The point of this line up is it gives GM designings and plannings more choices as far as price/performance goes. I can see the LS2 and LS8 being the cheaper engines while the LS3, LS7, and LS9 are the more expensive engines and to be used in higher costs products like the CTS V, and Corvette.
