It was not a coincidence. Chrysler just needed something to spruce up the room where they were holding the media event. Those drawings and old concept were just at hand, while:

1) Marchionne is VERY conservative with cash and "discretionary spending", as he put that, meaning that he'd rather dust off some old stuff for that than do some new ones

2) He was quite adamant about not wanting to show ANYTHING new before it actually goes live, both because it totally draws attention and demand away from current product (and it is already hard to interest people in the current lineup), and because it is often showing the impossible and then creating expectations it is difficult to match (e.g. the 200C was unfeasible in that no platform was even determined when the concept was unveiled)

3) If you'd look at Fiat Group's policy under Sergio, you'd see they do precious little if any "concepts" that don't go to the market immediately basically "as is". This is why the 200C will be the last of its kind, and you won't see Chrysler doing the GM thing of presenting the next generation of vehicles two years ahead. I believe we will see all the products indicated in the five year plan, including the most immediate 2010 launches, only immediately before they go on sale.

Also, Sergio's been "on the case" for the most of 2009, I am very sure he got acquainted with all Chrysler concepts and everything long ago and didn't need to study them while answering the journalists' questions.
