I Speak as a person who's Family owned nothing but AMC's until 1978, I can assure you they were anything but "Bullet Proof" The 1968 and 1973 Ambassador we had were bullet proof. The used 1973 Gremlin we bought used as our first "second vehicle and first 2 door he bought since his 54 Buick Special" never had any problem but you could not walk after an 2 hour ride. In 1978 the dealer my father dealt with, switch to Chevy/Olds, and I rember him driving by the front row after hours saying "Ilike this one" (a blue 78 Malibu Classic 2 door) but "I really like that 1" (a black Monte Carlo Landau) (without A/C).

Still to this day he says "That black car you bought frome me is the best car I have ever owned"

I for one who grew up never driving but it was "My Father's car" I would not be lining up for one of the first Pacers or Gremlins.
