i drive 8 miles to work, not every day, i split time with a coworker. but for this example, we'll say i drive everyday, AND we'll say i drive 10 miles.
so, we'll say 10 x 5 x 2 = 100 miles a week.
100 x 4 = 400
400 x 12 = 4800 miles a year. we'll round up to 5500 miles per year- say maybe i go on vacation or something.
5500 miles / 10 mpg (pretty large underestimate as well, even my truck does better than that) = 550 gallons
550 gallons x $4 (which gas is lower than right now) = $2200 a year.
550 gallons x $5 = $2750 a year
so we'll say at most, $3000 a year.
that is not a lot of money at all- i lose over 4 times that to taxes and other deductions out of my paycheck every year- especially if it means not driving a crappy tincan of an econo car. and this is with quite a few overestimates as well.
