Conversely with 20/20 foresight they and Honda should have built new facilities over the last 2 yrs to make more Corollas, Civics, Prius' etc. This is just normal business situations that Managers have to make adjustments for.

Ah, there it is - classic Toyota spin technique number 7.
When Honda hands Toyota their ass with anything and everything from boot marks to tire tracks on it - pretend Toyotas doing as well as Honda - and is just as smart and prepared.
NOPE.
Honda is living proof - in spades of just how wrong and how beatable Toyota can be.

But as was noted in an earlier post the 'plummet', as you incorrectly characterize it, is actually a mid year adjustment from a forecasted 5% increase in sales to a more realistic 1% increase in sales over 2007. It's an increase - it's not a loss of sales.

More importantly its a huge loss of momentum - that Nissan, Hyundai and most especially Honda are not experiencing - along with a bunch of Europeans as well.
Oh, and I guess the on going meltdown by Lexus everywhere and Toyota in Europe was already all figured in......or else somebody is BSing somebody somewhere about exactly how the reductions are expected to occur where.
BTW, do you think trading Lexus and large vehicle volume for Yaris sales is going to positively or negatively effect their bottomline - big time negative ..... or big time positive ???
Outside of our Domestic three in NA only - who exactly is slowing down faster than Toyota ????
Face it, without the Yen subsidy and all the other unlevel playing field issues - Toyota would be right there with Chrysler as far as 'bad' news goes.
Finally, who exactly is suffering
qualitative losses - WITHIN THEIR VOLUME as bad or worse - no need to exclude Chrysler on that one.
