I would agree with you 100% during real world driving. The problem is that even with the new, slightly more acurate EPA testing, the cars are driven like there is an egg between your foot and the gas pedal, always accelerating very slowly and never going over the speed limit all of which will favor a smaller cubic inch motor. In essence the manufacuteres are catering to the EPA.
I don't really have a problem with a Mustang getting a Turbo V6 as one of the options. Ford is smartly investing heavily in DSG type gearboxes and we all know how turbos love automatics. A turbo 6 and a 6-8 speed DSG will get good mileage while driving to and from work and will make great power to make sure the Mustang remains a fun to drive car.
I'm pretty sure if GM would put a turbocharger on the 3.6 and shove it into a RWD platform there would be plenty of us jumping for joy.
