Re: Tired of all the brand talk
Really, you guys are so right...The doom and gloom has to stop. It's an election year. Half of what is going on is total BS.
There has been several "good news" stories lately- regarding oil prices and the war in Iraq. Hardly anyone knows about that, do they?
It's not the end of the world, people. It's the same old political theater that we see every four years. If you don't like the way things are now, just wait 10 years and it will be exactly the same. I promise.
It's going on in another way at GM- gas prices are high, so we have to go to stupid, pointless, extreme measures to "change things" so investors will think progress is being made and when they don't happen people get upset.
So chevrolet decided to keep the current Cobalt for an extra year?
How many sales are they really losing in those 12 months? Honestly? With current exchange rates...GM is smart to let the first 100,000 cars to be sold in other markets. Is an affordable small car that gets 37 mpg really that hard to live with now? You know the Cruze is going to be more expensive than the Cobalt...it's bigger and faster and more advanced in every way. Even the Focus is fetching $18K now.
I'm just so fed up with people spewing things without thinking them through...and I'm even more fed up with GM not sticking to any set of plans for more than a week.
The Camaro is not dead. The Tahoe is not going to a crossover chassis. GMC isn't going to get canceled after only 5 or 6 months of slow sales. Saturn isn't going anywhere.... Hummer is unlikely to bring in enough cash to warrant a sale. Half of those stories and rumors are started by GM to help investors feel comfortable about management recognizing the problem and are willing to do something big (regardless of how stupid it is) to try to fix it. It's all smoke.
Even GM isn't that stupid.
Can we make an effort to think things through at GMI when we discuss topics like this? Let's tone down the "sky is falling" attitude at least here on GMI. I have to deal with it at work, at home, and on the news. Let's better our grasp of reality here. Please.
