On top of the fact that as a Canadian citizen, you cant finance through US institutions so your stuck with getting a loan from your own bank.
And you still pay all the a/c and gas taxes once you hit Canada Customs too...

Not exactly true.

You can bring just about any new or used vehicle into Canada, as long as you can find a dealer willing to sell to you, and as long as it’s on the RIV list of importable vehicles. There is no requirement that the vehicle was plated before import. I have imported new and used vehicles.

GM does require all imported vehicles to be 6 months old, and have over 12,000 KM’s before they will honour your warranty in Canada. If your vehicle is newer than this, US dealers have no problem doing the warranty work. I have imported many makes, including GM trucks. GM does void your roadside assistance. After the 6 months/12000km’s, you have full GM warranty.

You may have to pay the a/c tax, but you only pay PST & GST on the US purchase price (converted to CAN), so you save thousands on taxes. Before GM was offering these incentives, you could save well over $10K by importing a truck. The savings increase as the vehicle price increases. On the large SUV’s, you use to be able to save over $20K a few months ago. I havn't calculated the savings in the last couple of months, so I can't comment on the savings today.

Sorry to jump off topic here.
