It's not about following what they say, but the fact that they called it a wagon is just evidence that some people do think it's a tall wagon. BTW, personally I agree with you that it's an SUV. We cross-shopped it against the X5 and ML, not wagons. Oh, and the SRX actually has better ground cleance than most other midsize luxury SUVs.
I think the wagon perception isn't based on capabilities, but the design. Specifically, the longer length between C & D pillars and the near-vertical rear windshield.
