Every little bit helps.

With an H3 invoice of $28,670, plus destination of $745, minus $7,000 cash back, minus $500 conquest, minus $1,500 GM Card, would come to $20,415 +TTL, presuming there was a base manual no option H3 local to me in a color I would accept that a dealer would be willing to let go for invoice. Whew, that was a mouthful.

I currently drive about 800 miles per month. Though I can usually get 30 MPG with the Civic in my daily grind of stop & go on the woefully overloaded I-94 Edens stretch I travel daily, I have been planning on getting rid of it by the end of this year. Most of the vehicles I have been looking at get about 25 MPG combined, so this is what I will use for fuel cost comparison purposes. I presume I’d be lucky to get 15 MPG in the H3. So, with a 25 MPG car I’d burn 32 GPM (gallons per month), whereas it would be 53.3 GPM for the H3. So, I would be purchasing 21.3 additional GPM. What this comes out to in additional dollars per month obviously depends on the price of gas:

Price per add’tl cost per
gallon month
$3.50 $74.55
$4.00 $85.20
$4.50 $95.85
$5.00 $106.50
$5.50 $117.15
$6.00 $127.80

So, it really could be a good deal for a brand new 4 door 4X4 SUV, but I just can’t warm up to the overt HUMMER style—I’d so much prefer a Trailblazer despite some sacrifice in off-roadability—I’m sure MPG is in the same ballpark. But, since I wasn’t specifically in the market for an SUV, there will have to be some significant dollars on the hood for me to bite, and $3,500 +$500 doesn’t cut it on the Trailblazer.

I think I’m going to wait to upgrade the Civic until either my house sells or September when my wife begins her new job. Its looking like it will be no sooner than September right now, so the offers may different then.
