I kind o dont think that this car should be marked down for being an AWD car (extra weight) because that is just one of the characters of an AWD vehicle. Not to mention that at least in the states its first a luxury sedan and second a sports sedan so if it gives up some sport for the luxury of knowing you can always get your power to the ground then its ok with me.
however I live in So Cal where I wouldn't need the AWD system but once every 4 years maybe.

Most people won't require AWD on such a car, but there are always some who do. It's also a good means of having something to combat Audi A4's with Quattro. Even BMW offers a AWD 3er now.
