I read somewhere that Kia is actually ahead of where Toyota, Honda and Nissan were at this stag of their existence. Kia's quality now also ranks among the best in some comparisons. The Sedona minivan is quite nice and the Amanti is nothing to kick at. I would also think the Rio or Spectra woulod be a great commuter-type car.

I always look at GM products first, but when I look the other way, Kia will probably get a look if need be.
