While driving the car for about 15 minutes, the chimes dinged and "Service Air Bag" displayed on the DIC. I stopped the car, shut it off and read the owner's manual section about the various warning messages (although I read it when I bought the car). The manual said to have the car serviced by a dealer "immediately".

I parked the car (it was night). Earl the next morning, I started the car and the message was not displayed. I contacted OnStar who ran a vehicle check while the car was running. The operator said there were no current problems, but I should have the car taken to a dealer right away. She offered to provide a tow truck. Because the message was not displayed again, I drove the car to the dealer.

Ouch! I'll say....
