Re: SEMA: Chevrolet Suburban HD Z71 Diesel

well in july I bought a 2500 07 sub, with a 6.0 and 3.73's Just got my 20x8.5 welds on it with 285/55 terra grapplers. This sucker doesn't rub, My fronts do barely and with the 24 fot trailer mine rub. this one doesn't (well I doubt they've towed with it) the conversation with the GM guys went like this. So did it Need the HD pickup front end to clear the motor? No the 4.5 is designed with the same overall dimensions as a normal LS based smallblock. Okay when is this on sale? I was torn between a used excursion or the sub and hated the excursion beyond the fact its a ford. His response? next body style. There will not be a diesel suburban of this body style. I said you're serious? my truck can't move my 8-10K trailer up hills at highway speed, I'm sitting in the right lane with the blinkers on watching diesels fly by me. There's no big block anymore, and honestly I'd prefer a diesel for the economy with a 6500 lb truck empty. He said I understand where you're coming from, but its not happening this body style. I said so if you owned my truck you'd be ordering a supercharger for it instead of holding off and trading in for a diesel? He said yup. He also said the rear axle was widened from standard on a 2500, I'm guessing to match up with the flares. I know my truck has the rear tires even with the metal quarters, The wider track couldn't hurt but I have fun down some narrow drivethru's here with curbs as it is with the current production track width.....can only imagine another 2-3 inches...

Pretty much told him I don't like the pickup nose but if that was for sale I'd buy it, but I'd prefer the current SUV nose dolled up a lil bit. maybe with teh similar scoops on the hood like this show vehicle had with the tags. Seemed the ride height was about an inch or two higher than mine as well. The interior was a lil too blingy for me, the wheels weren't the greatest, but were better than the 16's mine came with. I paid 53 for mine with every option but tow mirrors and 4.10s (wanted power mirrors and pulled it out of inventory so I wound up with 3.73's) Since I have that purely evil fuel gallons used page on the dash....I'm right near 2000 gallons, and 7000 miles. Thats 8-9 overall with 3/4 of the milage unloaded and a 1/4 of that city driving at least. I know for a fact that would be 5 mpg more for the diesel. and lets get real there's tuners out there to jack the performance up and reflash to stock to bring it in for warranty work. The diesels are just miles ahead of gas for trucks. and I'd give up my 350/380 6.0 gasser for a 330/520 diesel in a heart beat. I have borrowed buddy's F350 6.0 powerstroke to tow with.......with the turbo its even quicker to spool and pull with a load on it. Diesels win by for for towing, and with modern diesels they're gotten much more quiet and tolerable. I'd place my order now...too bad they're saying this was pretty much a c***tease.
