OK, I have to be dumb and ask this. What exactly is done in a "chassis lube"? I think I know what should be done, but isn't this kind of a vestigial service left over from 50 years ago when cars really needed this kind of thing? Aren't a lot of joints lubed internally now or use flexibly plastic polymers and mounts instead of lubed metal to metal contact points?
I often watch the oil change services I get, sometimes at a local Jiffy lube close to work, and I never see them with a little oil can ala the Tin Man going around and lubing anything. Where is the lubrication performed? I've even watched the people under the car and never see them doing anything aside from the oil filter changeout.
