Based on information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, the media may report that General Motors will be announcing a noncompliancerecall involving certain 2007 model year Pontiac G6 vehicles.
These vehicles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 208, Occupant Crash Protection. The right front passenger seats in these vehicles are built with a passenger air bagsensing system. When tested with a representative, unrestrained six year old child, the system is required to turn off the right front passenger's airbag. Interference during system calibration caused the seats to be out of specification.
To correct this condition, dealers are to replace the passenger air bag sensing system.
A total of 359 vehicles are involved and GM is working with the supplier to obtain the required parts as quickly as possible. Dealers will be notified when customer notification letters are scheduled to be mailed.
GM Vehicle Inquiry System (GMVIS) information for this recall will not be available until the recall bulletin is released to dealers.
