Transport Canada Issues Recall on ATS, CTS, and Camaro

A potential issue with the electric power steering rack is leading to a recall of the Cadillac ATS, CTS, and the Chevrolet Camaro.

Transport Canada says that bolts that attach these electric power steering assist motors to the steering gear are prone to corroding and breaking. If that happens, drivers may experience a loss of power steering assist.

A sudden increase in steering weight, potentially occurring midway through a bend or unexpectedly head of a corner potentially increasing the risk of a crash.

The recall affects 2013-2016 ATSs, 2014-2016 CTSs, and 2016-2017 Camaros.

The good news is that the fix is fairly simple. The bolts are removed and replaced along with a wax coating to protect the bolts from further corrosion. If, though, the bolts can’t replaced due to corrosion, GM will replace the entire steering gear assembly at no cost to the owner.

In all, about 3,700 vehicles are covered by the recall. No recall has been issued in the US.
