Take Split-Screen Tour of Motor City’s Last Century

Detroit may be going through a revival today, but the “re” in that word is predicated on a time when it was the US’s fourth largest city.

The hub of auto manufacturing in the US, the city has been seen both booms and busts. The New Yorker compiled footage of the city and its assembly lines from the distant past and the present and arranged them side by side.

It’s a fascinating picture of all the myriad ways the city has changed and some of the ways it hasn’t.
