The SUVs are claiming another victim, this time it's the Malibu, which reportedly will be discontinued after the 2023 model year.

GM Authority reports that the Malibu "will likely be dropped" from the model line-up. Although GM had planned to update the car in 2023 and continue production until 2025, it seems that the current pandemic is causing the company to reconsider.

Sales of the Malibu, like almost all other sedans, have been dropping off lately. Sales of the car fell by nearly 10% year-over-year in 2019 and that's part of a trend being seen across the sedan market.

Chevrolet dropped the Cruze and the Impala last year for similar reasons and with the Malibu's future uncertain, the Sonic may be the last sedan standing before too long, if it even makes it that long.

Launched in 2016, the current Malibu is the ninth generation to wear the badge, which traces its roots back to 1964.
