Report: Mid-Engine Corvette Not Bound for New York. Maybe a Summer Reveal.

If the mid-engine C8 Corvette isn’t arriving at the Detroit auto show next month, when is it arriving? Well, a new report says it won’t be coming to the New York auto show either.

The new report, from GM Authority, says that the C8 Corvette will arrive sometime in the summer. They quote a “source close to the matter.” That means that it won’t be arriving at a major auto show. Instead, expect the car to get a reveal of its own.

A New York reveal would have been appropriate, given that’s where the car first appeared. At GM’s own Motorama auto show in 1953.

The report says that it’s not clear if a Detroit 2019 reveal was ever actually in the cards, but that a power struggle has pushed the car back. That’s a struggle to put enough power through the car’s electrical system. It’s said that it couldn’t handle the load and has needed a major redesign.

So we’ll see a mid-engine Corvette sometime next year. Maybe. With as many rumors flying and as much hype as a Corvette with the motor in the back has gotten over the last 50 or so years, we’ll believe it when we see it. And maybe not even then.
