Rejigging the Chevy ‘Bu for 2019

People with cameras have caught the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu out testing wearing less camouflage and giving us a better look at its updated face.

The Malibu will go under the knife next year to keep it fresh among the fierce competition in the failing midsize sedan segment. The current car is far more striking than its predecessor and has been popular with consumers as GM has slowly backed off from its heavy reliance on sales to rental fleets.

Look for the car to show up with restyled bumpers and light assemblies, along with new advanced driver technologies. Interior changes should follow the corporate line we’ve seen Chevrolet take with the recent launches of the Equinox and Traverse SUVs.

In terms of powertrain, the Malibu should also adopt the company’s 1.6-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder used in both the Cruse and Equinox, likely in conjunction with a 9-speed automatic.

Expect to see the 2019 Malibu this spring, probably after the 2018 New York International Auto Show.
