GM Powers Down the Malibu Hybrid for 2020 by Sebastien Bell September 17, 2019 Share Comments Despite its superlative fuel economy numbers, a cooling sedan market means that the Chevrolet will discontinue the Malibu Hybrid for 2020. Speaking to Green Car Reports, GM spokesperson Kevin Kelly confirmed that the model would not return next year. Sharing many components with the also discontinued Volt, the Malibu Hybrid was capable of 46 mpg, according to the EPA. That made it competitive with other, similarly-sized hybrids like the Accord Hybrid (48 mpg) and the Camry (52 mpg). On the road since 2015, the Malibu Hybrid started at $27,840 for MY 2019. With its departure, Chevrolet no longer offers a hybrid, though the Bolt EV can still be purchased.
