GM Planning to Double Design Studio Space by Michael Accardi August 30, 2017August 30, 2017 Share Comments GM is entering the final phase of its expansion plans for the GM Design studios located at the Warren Technical Center in Michigan. The planned 360,000-square-foot expansion is part of the Tech Center’s billion dollar multi-year makeover which began back in 2015, but GM won’t break ground on the new studio building until the middle of next year. Conceptual images released show the new building will surround the iconic Design Dome Auditorium, GM says the project will require two-to-three years of construction before completion. “We can only begin to predict how mobility will change in future generations,” said Michael Simcoe, vice president of Global Design. “Investing in our creative and skilled team and providing them with inspiring, modern spaces, new technologies and more ways to work together will foster innovation that leads to real solutions for customers.” The company tasked with the project is Walbridge, in partnership with SmithGroup JJR, which previously received an award from the American Institute of Architects for work done on interior renovations of the Dome in 2014.
